The Hardcore 24 Rules and Regulations

VERY IMPORTANT!!!

  1. Each team member must read & adhere to the rules & regulations in the race packet.
  2. Before you or your team is considered, we must have the following:
    • A completed registration form listing each racer on your team
    • An originally signed Athlete's Entry Blank and Release Form
    • Complete payment for your team
  3. Team member changes must be made prior to the registration deadline of June, 10th to avoid a late penalty!

Lighting
A Primary and secondary light system is required for night riding. Some light charging systems may be available. More details to follow. Electric Outlets will be available on a limited basis, bring extra and fully charged batteries.

Important Notes
It is important that your team-mates and support crew read these carefully. The trails at Camp Cutler are on private property, riding there is by permit only. Permits are available at the camp headquarters and trail heads. A map is on the permits indicating which trails are open to riding. Many of the trails being used for the Hardcore 24 are not normally open to riding. Therefore, there will be no pre riding of the entire course before Friday June, 16th.

Each lap is approximately 8 miles, under 1 hour for the fastest riders, well over 2 hours for the slowest riders. The trails consist of a bit of everything, including: wide single track, narrow single track with rocks, roots, & mud, fast rolling single track, low gear uphill, water crossings, plus some fire road. The race is a relay format for teams of 2-10, and a straight-through, round-the-clock race for solo riders.

THE START
The race begins at 12 noon on Saturday. A mass start will be used.

THE RULES

  1. Mandatory pre-race meeting at 11:00am on Sat. for all Captains, although all racers are encouraged to attend. Each team must designate a Captain to handle all official matters including the pre-race meeting, picking up registration packets, making sure all team members have completed their appropriate paperwork, etc.

  2. Each team will be issued a batton, which must be carried by the teammate currently completing a lap.  In order to be scored for a lap the rider must dismount at the designated area, then walk their bike to the check in table, show their batton, then they will receive confirmation of being checked in by the Timing Area Personel.  The batton will then be handed to the waiting teammate.
Note: If a Soloist or Teams batton is lost, a replacement batton will be available from the timing area personel at a cost of $10 each.

  3. Waiting riders must always check in by showing their teams batton to the Timing Area Personel prior to starting their lap. Solo riders must check in with the Timing Area Personel each time they finish a lap and before they begin their next lap.

  4. Each team member and solo rider must complete a minimum of 1 lap. Teams will be penalized a lap for each lap not completed by each member, except in the case of an injury, which must be reported to a race official who will make the final decision.

  5. If a team member cannot complete his/her lap, the team has the option of starting the lap over with a new rider. They will, however, lose the distance and time of the incomplete lap. The replacement racer must check-in with the transition official prior to beginning the lap.

  6. For safety reasons, there will be no reverse riding allowed on the course!

  7. Teammates may cannibalize each other's bikes or swap if necessary. Riders may accept mechanical support on the course by any registered racer, but support crews can help only in the transition area or at a campsite.

  8. Riders may accept food and water from anyone on the course.

  9. We suggest that each team & solo rider have a support crew of at least 1 or 2 persons who are not racing to assist with various jobs such as organizing transitions, cooking & assisting with mechanical problems.

  10. Bike wash areas will be available. Toilets and showers are available throughout the weekend. Please use the toilets & not the woods.

  11. You will choose a campsite upon arrival. One car from each team will be allowed to park at the camping area or near the lodging.  All other vehicles will be parked at the main camp parking lot, which is only about 1/2 mile from the start finish area. You will need all of your own camping supplies and food, except for the post race feast, which is free to entrants.

  12. All riders beginning a lap between 6:00pm and 6:00am will be required to have a primary AND a secondary light source. The primary light source must be at least 4 watts and secured to your bike or helmet. The secondary light source may be a flashlight, penlight or similar lighting system.

  13. It is against the rules for riders to ride with their lights out to save batteries. Riders violating this rule will have their current lap nullified.

  14. Come prepared with completely charged, extra batteries so you can be completely self-sufficient for 24 hours. Be sure to mark your name on your batteries & chargers. Taking someone else's battery will be grounds for disqualification of the entire team.

  15. All federal, state, local and Boy Scout rules will be in effect, including:
    • No firearms
    • No illegal drugs
    • No dogs or other pets!!!
    • Fires are allowed in existing fire pits only.
    • No alcoholic beverages permitted!
Your entire team will be disqualified and asked to leave the property, if you or your support crew bring alcohol! We are guests of the Boy Scouts of America and this is their mandatory rule.

  16. Federal, state and county laws and ordinances must be abided by at all times.

  17. Additional Rules and regulations:
    • Only riders officially entered in the event or designated as "Official Course Marshalls" may ride on the designated racecourse.
    • Each rider while racing must wear his/her race number and numberplate.
    • Wearing a buckled helmet is mandatory anytime you are on your bike on the property (not just when you are racing)!
    • All captains must attend the pre-race meeting at 11:00 am on Sat.
    • Ignorance of any of these rules is not an excuse.
    • Foul riding, unsportsmanlike behavior, or the use of profane or abusive language, are grounds for warning, and/or disqualification of a team or solo rider.
    • Short cutting the course can be grounds for automatic disqualification of the entire team or solo rider. If a racer makes a mistake, and he/she reports it to the officials before it is discovered, a time adjustment will be made rather than a DQ.
    • Racers riding bicycles have the right of way over racers pushing bicycles. When practical, racers pushing should stay on the least rideable portion of the    path when being passed. Riders should say pleasantly, "Track, on your left" or “Track, on your right" when passing other riders.
    • All protests must be made by team captains to an official. Protests may be made during the event and up to 15 minutes after the final results are posted. All    protests must be made in a respectful manner to an official. Officials will have the final decision on all protests.

  18. Safety on the course is our primary concern. If you come across an injured rider or a potentially unsafe situation, you are encouraged to stop and assist. If you stop to give assistance for a health or safety-related reason, you may report your bib number (we suggest you write it down) to a passing rider who will turn it in to the transition officials so that your team's next rider may begin his/her lap. You must also still complete your lap and report to an official the nature of the assistance you provided and the approximate time duration of your assistance stop. You will be assigned a lap time in accord with your average lap time either during the day or night, depending on the time of day you stop to assist. All decisions regarding time adjustment will be made by the Chief Official and will be final. Adjustments will be noted on the score board as they are determined.
NOTE: This rule applies ONLY to health and safety concerns. It does NOT apply to assistance with mechanical problems or repairs!

  19. The Race Directors will be given the final decision regarding any occurrence at the event including those not addressed in these rules.

  20. Maglight_RULES!!!

THE FINISH
The race will end at 12 noon on Sunday for all race groups. Teams and solo riders finishing a lap before 12 noon may still start another lap, as long as they start before 24:00:00 on the official race clock. Solos and Team riders may stop the race at any time prior to 24:00:00 on the official race clock. The time and number of laps completed by each team or solo will determine their finishing order. In case of a tie in laps, the team or solo rider who finishes their last lap first will beat those who finish behind them. A lap is officially finished when the rider walks their bike to the check in table and receives confirmation of being checked in.
